FAQ

IS HIFU SAFE?

HIFU is widely used as a non-invasive skin tightening treatment and has a strong safety profile when carried out by a trained practitioner.

The treatment uses focused ultrasound energy to target specific depths beneath the skin’s surface, without cutting or damaging the outer skin. During your consultation, we will assess your skin, discuss your suitability and explain what to expect before treatment.

DOES IT HURT

Comfort levels vary from person to person. Some clients describe the sensation as warmth, tingling or brief discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.

Any sensation is usually temporary and only felt during the treatment itself. We will talk you through the process and adjust the treatment approach where appropriate to keep you as comfortable as possible.

WILL I NEED TO TAKE TIME OFF?

There is little to no downtime with HIFU. Most clients can return to their normal daily activities straight after treatment.

You may experience some temporary redness, warmth or tenderness in the treated area, but this usually settles naturally.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Some clients notice an initial tightening effect after treatment, but the main results develop gradually as the skin’s natural collagen response is stimulated.

Improvements usually continue over the following weeks, with many clients seeing the best results around 8–12 weeks after treatment.

How long results last will vary depending on your age, skin condition, lifestyle and natural ageing process.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Side effects are usually mild and temporary. The skin may appear flushed after treatment, and some clients may experience slight swelling, tenderness, tingling or sensitivity in the treated area.

Less common effects can include temporary bruising or numbness in small areas. Any possible risks will be discussed with you during your consultation before treatment.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR HIFU?

HIFU may be suitable for clients with mild to moderate skin laxity who are looking to improve the appearance of firmness, lifting and skin tightness without surgery.

Common areas of concern include the jawline, neck, under the chin, brow area and décolletage.

The best way to know whether HIFU is right for you is to book a consultation, where we can assess your skin and discuss your goals.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Many clients only need one treatment, although this depends on your skin, the area being treated and the level of laxity.

Some clients may benefit from additional sessions or maintenance treatments over time, especially as the skin continues to age naturally.

Your practitioner will recommend the most suitable treatment plan during your consultation.

CAN HIFU BE USED ON THE BODY?

Yes. HIFU can be used on selected body areas where skin laxity is a concern, such as the stomach, arms, thighs, chest, hands and buttocks.

During your consultation, we will assess the area and discuss whether HIFU is suitable for your skin and goals.

CAN HIFU HELP AFTER PREGNANCY OR WEIGHT LOSS?

HIFU may help improve the appearance of loose or less firm skin following pregnancy, weight loss or natural ageing.

It is not a replacement for surgery, but it can be a suitable non-invasive option for clients looking to improve skin firmness and tone.

CAN HIFU HELP WITH CELLULITE OR STRETCH MARKS?

HIFU may help improve the appearance of skin texture and firmness in areas prone to cellulite or stretch marks.

Results vary from person to person, and your practitioner will discuss what outcome may be realistic for your skin during consultation.

HOW LONG DOES A HIFU TREATMENT TAKE?

Treatment time depends on the area being treated. Smaller areas may take less time, while larger body areas will usually take longer.

Your practitioner will confirm the expected treatment time during your consultation.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?

We recommend arriving with clean skin and avoiding active skincare products, such as retinol or strong exfoliating acids, shortly before your appointment unless advised otherwise.

You should also let your practitioner know about any medical conditions, recent treatments, injectables, medication or skin sensitivity before treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID AFTER HIFU?

After treatment, it is best to be gentle with the treated area for the first 24–48 hours.

Avoid excessive heat, sunbeds, strong exfoliating products and harsh skincare immediately after treatment. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice based on the area treated.

CAN I HAVE HIFU IF I HAVE BOTOX OR FILLER?

If you have recently had Botox, dermal filler or other aesthetic treatments, please let us know during your consultation.

In some cases, we may recommend waiting before having HIFU, depending on the treatment area and when your previous treatment was carried out.

WHO SHOULD AVOID HIFU?

HIFU may not be suitable for everyone. It may not be recommended if you are pregnant, have certain medical conditions, active skin infections, open wounds, or metal implants in the treatment area.

Your suitability will always be assessed during consultation before treatment goes ahead.

IS HIFU SUITABLE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES?

HIFU can be suitable for many skin types because it works beneath the surface of the skin rather than targeting pigment in the skin.

However, suitability depends on your skin condition, treatment area and individual concerns, which will be discussed during consultation.

WILL MY RESULTS LOOK NATURAL?

Yes, HIFU results are designed to develop gradually as your body’s natural collagen response is stimulated.

This means results tend to appear subtle and natural-looking rather than sudden or dramatic.

HOW LONG DO HIFU RESULTS LAST?

Results vary from person to person. Factors such as age, skin condition, lifestyle and natural ageing will all affect how long results last.

Some clients choose maintenance treatments to help support their results over time.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER HIFU?

For facial treatments, many clients can return to normal activities after their appointment. However, we may recommend avoiding makeup for a short period if your skin feels warm, flushed or sensitive.

Your practitioner will advise you based on how your skin responds on the day.

CAN HIFU BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

HIFU may be combined with Fat Freezing as part of a wider treatment plan.

The timing of treatments is important, so your practitioner will advise what is suitable and when it should be carried out.

WHAT AREAS OF THE FACE CAN BE TREATED?

Common facial areas include the jawline, under the chin, cheeks, brow area and neck.

The best treatment areas for you will depend on your skin, facial structure and the result you would like to achieve.

WILL I NEED A CONSULTATION FIRST?

Yes. A consultation allows us to assess your skin, discuss your concerns, check suitability and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan.

This also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and understand what results may be realistic for you.
